Cocktail Recipe

Harvard

An 1890s cocktail from the Ivy League canon — cognac and sweet vermouth in a Manhattan-like formula with a splash of soda to lighten it. The Harvard predates the Manhattan by a decade and shows that brandy-vermouth combinations were once as common as whiskey ones.

Steps

  1. 1.Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass.
  2. 2.Fill with ice and stir gently for about 30 seconds until well-chilled.
  3. 3.Strain into a chilled glass.
