An 1890s cocktail from the Ivy League canon — cognac and sweet vermouth in a Manhattan-like formula with a splash of soda to lighten it. The Harvard predates the Manhattan by a decade and shows that brandy-vermouth combinations were once as common as whiskey ones.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ ozcognac
- ¾ ozsweet vermouth
- ¼ ozsimple syrup
- 2Angostura bitters
- 1 ozsoda water
- garnishorange twist
Steps
- 1.Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass.
- 2.Fill with ice and stir gently for about 30 seconds until well-chilled.
- 3.Strain into a chilled glass.
